Unica providing technical installations for renovation of TNO’s facilities at Solar Lab

In January 2020, TNO, K_Dekker bouw & infra and Unica Building Projects entered into a new partnership. Unica provides the technical installations for the renovation and expansion of the test facility and specialist laboratories at Solar Lab in Petten. The project has now been completed in phases.

Sustainability boost for Driestar educatief

As part of a multi-annual sustainability vision, the education group chose to install solar panels, which were placed under Unica’s supervision. This project also included optimisation of the existing climate control system and connection of the solar panels to the installations.

Synto to deliver new Pieter Zeeman and De Meie site in Zierikzee

The Zeeland-based installation company Synto, part of the Unica Group since November 2019, has secured a major contract from the Municipality of Schouwen-Duiveland. In close collaboration with a number of other parties in Zeeland, Synto will be responsible for the mechanical installation work at the new shared site for the Pieter Zeeman and De Meie schools at the Hatfieldpark in Zierikzee. This project represents one of the largest contracts in the company’s history.

New buildings with a village feel for the De Waalboog care organisation

The six buildings at the Joachim en Anna nursing home, part of the De Waalboog care organisation in Nijmegen, will be renovated over the coming years. The contractor Giesbers and the technical service provider Unica were present at the signing of the construction team agreement on 10 April 2020, along with the client De Waalboog. Unica is proud to be delivering this project as installation partner together with Giesbers. The project will run until 2024.

Stationspost building: Unica to design and implement technical installations

The Stationspost building is set to undergo a technical modernisation and strategic conversion. Unica has been involved in this redevelopment project in the Hague from an early stage, so the technical service provider has played a prominent role. In addition to the design, Unica is also responsible for providing all technical installations, to ensure the building is comfortable and sustainable. For example, thermal energy storage, air conditioning and electrical installations will be put in place at the Stationspost building. Unica is also responsible for the fire safety installations.

Nij Smellinghe hospital continues to modernise and improve sustainability

The Nij Smellinghe hospital is working towards a sustainable organisation. This will help to ensure the hospital in Drachten remains prepared for the future. Healthcare is changing and that means adjustments need to be made to the hospital building. Brouwers: “We are pleased that the renovation is going ahead. Unica acquires measurement and control specialist Numan & Kant

Unica has acquired the company Numan & Kant based in Strijen. Numan & Kant is a product-independent provider of solutions for measurement and control technology and handles total projects for climate control installations in buildings. With this acquisition, Unica is reinforcing its position in the field of building intelligence in terms of knowledge and capacity as well as regional presence.

Unica acquires PCT Koudetechniek

Unica has expanded its network of companies with the addition of PCT Koudetechniek. The acquisition of this company in Deurne will allow Unica to reinforce its position within the field of refrigeration technology, in which PCT is one of the Netherlands’ leading specialists. PCT is primarily active in the food industry, within both industrial processing and transport.

Customised automation for producer of animal medicines

Smarter buildings and business processes thanks to Building Insight data platform

The digital platform Building Insight is an open data platform that collects all the relevant data from building management systems, sensors, smart meters, access systems, weather forecasts and smartphone apps. The information displayed clearly in dashboards and real-time models allows customers to respond to expected changes in use and ensure more comfortable, more efficient and safer building management. A hygienic and safe building is more important than ever during the Covid-19 pandemic and this innovation will contribute to achieving this. The Unica Innovation Center is a strategic division of technical service provider Unica, which was established last year. Building Insight is the first concept launched by the division.

New air conditioning for the Melkweg is a logistical challenge

Renovation efforts at the Melkweg in Amsterdam first began back in 2018. The Melkweg is a music venue and cultural centre hosting live music, club nights, photography, film and festivals. It is located in a former sugar refinery and milk factory on the Lijnbaansgracht in Amsterdam, behind Leidseplein and bordering the Stadsschouwburg theatre.

Construction of the new Overbetuwe College in Elst begins in summer 2020

The new construction at Overbetuwe College (OBC) in Elst is about to begin. The construction sign for this new-build project was officially unveiled on 15 July 2020. Unica Building Projects is part of the design team and will be working with construction contractor Giesbers to deliver the technical installations.

Unica ICT Solutions extends cooperation with Vitesse for three more seasons

Unica ICT Solutions will remain linked to Arnhem football club Vitesse for a further three years. As a loyal partner of Vitesse, the decision has been made to upgrade the contract despite the Covid-19 pandemic. Unica ICT Solutions will therefore remain ICT partner and sponsor of Vitesse until 2022/2023.

Rijnstate chooses Berghege Heerkens Unica consortium for construction of new hospital facility in Elst

Rijnstate and the Berghege Heerkens Unica consortium will be working together on the construction of the new hospital facility in Elst. The parties have drawn up a construction team agreement for this cooperation. Construction is expected to start in spring 2021. Once the internal decision-making is completed, a definitive zoning plan developed and the necessary permits are obtained, the construction of the hospital facility can begin. Construction is expected to start in spring 2021, with the opening of the new building scheduled for early 2023.

Virtual Welloop run raises record amount for Unica Foundation

Despite restrictions due to Covid-19, the Unica Foundation’s annual running event raised a record sum. Last week it was announced that the special ‘virtual edition’ held in 2020 raised a fantastic €43,955. The money will be used to fund technical projects that the Unica Foundation carries out with local partners in Nepal.

Healthier indoor climate in sight for schools and care homes

Unica launches Building Insight | Air to the market. This innovation provides insight into the quality of the indoor climate at schools and care homes, among others. The application consists of a sensor that continuously collects data about the carbon level in the space. This data can be consulted from a mobile phone, by scanning the QR code above the sensor. Users receive direct insight through a web app and can also choose to receive a message if a limit is exceeded. The platform provides a full overview of all areas or spaces where a sensor is present. With this application, Unica provides users with insight that will allow them to reduce the risk of Covid-19 infection at offices and schools.

Mentor John Bergsma nominated for ‘Top Coach of the Year’

This week, Project Leader John Bergsma has the chance to win the title ‘Top Coach of the Year’. As a mentor through the Unica Building Services branch in Arnhem, John was nominated for this award, organised by Wij Techniek (formerly OTIB), the development fund for the installation sector. John was proposed for this title by his colleagues, particularly the trainee engineers that he mentors within the company.

Central Government Real Estate Agency chooses Unica for the installation maintenance at 62 government buildings in three regions

Unica, one of the largest technical service providers in the Netherlands, has secured a major contract from the Central Government Real Estate Agency. This concerns the maintenance of electrical and climate control installations at 62 government buildings across three regions. The contract also includes troubleshooting in the event of technical malfunctions, execution of additional work and monitoring of fire safety. The current agreement runs for 5 years, with an option to extend the contract for a further 4 years.

De Oorsprong: modification using prefab and PVT

The ‘De Oorsprong’ apartment building in Blaricum consists of 53 apartments and a commercial business space, which will be heated and cooled using an underground thermal energy storage system. Residents have their own heat pump, which is connected to the source installation. The project ran into problems, so Unica Energy Solutions was asked to step in and take responsibility for the management and maintenance of the thermal energy storage installation.

Unica supporting the Dutch Heart Foundation through installation of AEDs

Unica has entered into a partnership with the Dutch Heart Foundation. In this partnership, Unica will provide its technicians’ expertise, in order to contribute to the creation of a network of AEDs with national coverage in the Netherlands. Unica employees around the country will work as volunteers to assist the installation of the AEDs, which play a crucial role in improving the chance of survival if someone suffers a cardiac arrest.

Unica is a partner in the construction of The View of Rotterdam

The View of Rotterdam has officially commissioned Unica with the installation work for the construction of the luxury Bay House - The View complex, in Rotterdam’s Rijnhaven district. The parties drew up a building contract for this in December. Construction of the attractive complex has already begun and is expected to be completed in early 2023.

Unica to deliver modernisation of the Dutch Ministry of Defence’s IT backbone as part of consortium

The Dutch Ministry of Defence is starting 2021 with the construction of a future-proof IT infrastructure. On 30 December 2020, State Secretary Barbara Visser signed a contract for this with IBM, on behalf of the Athena consortium (IBM/Atos/Unica). Work will start with the components that offer the most added value for the operational performance. The armed forces will be closely involved in this process.

Unica reinforces expertise in refrigeration technology with acquisition of Van Kempen

Unica has acquired the company Van Kempen Koudetechniek, based in Tiel. With the addition of Van Kempen to Unica’s network of companies, the technical service provider is reinforcing its organisation with nearly 75 years of experience in industrial refrigeration technology. Van Kempen is active throughout the Netherlands, particularly in the potatoes, fruit and vegetables, floristry and food sectors, as well as at distribution centres. This is the second acquisition within this specialist field in a short period, since Unica also acquired PCT Koudetechniek in March 2020. Both businesses, which focus on different market segments, will continue to operate autonomously within Unica’s network of companies.
